Check-in Just Got Easier!
Beginning Sunday, August 17, Check-in stations will take on a new look. To speed up the check-in process, each station has been equipped with a bar code scanner. No more typing your phone number or wading through all those confusing screens. Now you simply scan your key fob or card, print, and go. It's that easy!
But wait! “I don't have a key fob or card,” you say.
Well, starting Sunday, August 10, you can get one. Go to the table in the Fellowship Mall or either of the Assisted Check-in stations located by the fish tank or by the Worship Center Foyer. Parents will have the choice of a key fob or card for themselves. Each child in first through fifth grade will be issued a card on a lanyard in their Bible Fellowship class. With your key fob or card you can quickly and easily check-in for Bible Fellowship and any other event that uses check-in.
Ugh! “Another thing I have to carry around with me,” you moan.
We think the cards are pretty cool, but, if you prefer, you may use your Kroger card, driver's license, or virtually any card with a bar code printed on it. It is up to you. Just drop by one of the Assisted Check-in stations to set up your card.
Procedure for Check-in
- Starting Sunday, August 17, go to one of the Self Check-in stations (the same machines we currently use – just a different screen). You will recognize them by the single line of text on the screens that say, “Scan your card to check-in.” Don't worry. If you have not yet picked up a key fob or card by August 17, then you will find some machines with the familiar check-in look. However, all machines will be converted on August 24, so be sure to pick up a key fob or card at one of the Assisted Check-in stations.
- Pass your bar coded device in front of the scanner. You will hear a beep once it has been read.
- Follow the prompts and select the members of your family that you are checking in along with their respective activities. NOTE – If children are not assigned to the correct Bible Fellowship class, then cancel the check-in and go to the Assisted Check-in station next to the fish tank. The staff there will make the correction and check-in your child.
- Wait for name and security tags to be printed. Remove the tags and take your child to his/her class.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- What is a “fob?”
It is a small plastic card that attaches to your key chain and has a unique bar code printed on it. Once it has been associated with your record, you can use it to check-in to activities at the church.
- Why use Self Check-in instead of Assisted Check-in (currently being used)?
Self Check-in is much faster, as it uses bar coding to retrieve your information from our database. It was designed to process many people quickly by minimizing required user input.
- For what activities will we use Check-in?
We will use Check-in for any activity that involves attendance or requires security for children birth through fifth grades. Bible Fellowship, VIP, Children’s Choirs, Child-care, and Wednesday mission activities are examples. As we further implement Check-in, expect to use it almost anytime your children are involved in an activity on campus.
- How do I register guests who come with my family?
If you bring guests with you, then you can use the Self Check-in stations to check-in family or those who have visited with you in the past. New guests will need to register at the Assisted Check-in station next to the fish tank.
- Where do first-time guests register?
Families who are visiting First Baptist will need to go to the Assisted Check-in station desk next to the fish tank to register. If they begin attending regularly, or if they join the church, then they can pick up a bar coded key fob and use the Self Check-in stations for future visits.
- Who can use Self Check-in stations?
Currently, only children birth through 5th grade and Children’s Ministry staff and workers are using Check-in.
- Can children check themselves in?
Yes, but only if they are in 1st through 5th grades. Parents should check-in children who are younger than 1st grade.
- What if I forget my bar coded tag or card?
If you forget to bring your fob or card, then you have two options. First, if your spouse has his/her bar coded device, then he/she can check-in family members. Second, if neither of you have a tag or card, then go to the Assisted Check-in station next to the fish tank. The staff there will check you in manually.
- What if I lose my fob or card?
If you lose your key tag fob or card, then go to the Assisted Check-in station next to the fish tank. The staff will issue you a replacement. If you simply forget to bring it with you, then please do not get a replacement, as the tags and cards are expensive to print.
- How do I use a grocery store fob, driver’s license, or other bar coded device?
Already have a stock of key tag fobs or cards and want to use one of them instead of adding to your collection? It’s easy. Go to the Assisted Check-in station next to the fish tank and ask the staff to encode the bar coded device of your choice. You can begin using it immediately.
- Are we going to use Check-in for other age groups?
Yes. We started with our Children’s Ministry (birth through fifth grade) in order to introduce the system to our church and to begin to take advantage of the security features of Check-in. During the coming months, we plan to add our Student Ministry to the Check-in process and follow later with our adults.
